On June 14th, the English Faculty at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a seminar titled “Building Teaching Skills for Students Majoring in English”. The event aimed to equip students with essential knowledge, skills, and professional teaching competencies, empowering them to confidently pursue their future career goals.
The seminar drew the enthusiastic participation of numerous English majors from the Faculty.
The program was held with the participation of Mr. Vo Quoc Dai, M.A. – Vice Dean of the English Faculty – along with other lecturers from the faculty who accompanied and supported students throughout the event.
At the seminar, Ms. Vo Tran Minh Hieu, M.A., a lecturer from the English Faculty, delivered practical and valuable insights regarding effective teaching methods and essential classroom skills. She emphasized key elements such as classroom organization and planning (including appropriate time management to ensure sufficient knowledge delivery), flexibility in handling classroom situations, storytelling techniques, relating lessons to real-life contexts, integrating technology, and especially innovative teaching approaches using open-ended questions to foster a creative and open learning environment. These insights provided students with a clearer picture of how to design and manage a classroom effectively.
In addition, the speaker also introduced several modern and practical teaching tools such as Duolingo, Quizlet, and online platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Google Classroom, which can help enhance engagement and improve the learning experience for both teachers and students.
Through the seminar “Building Teaching Skills for Students Majoring in English”, it is hoped that students with a passion for teaching have gained useful knowledge, practical skills, and specific strategies for developing their academic and professional abilities — paving the way for them to confidently pursue their teaching career aspirations.
