Two students from the Faculty of Japanese Studies receive scholarships to study at Ibaraki Christian University

Two students from the Faculty of Japanese Studies at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) have officially arrived at Ibaraki Christian University (Japan) under a prestigious exchange scholarship program, marking a proud milestone in their academic and international integration journey.

This scholarship program is one of the key initiatives within the international cooperation framework between HUTECH and Japanese universities. To be selected, students must not only achieve outstanding academic results with a GPA of 3.7 or higher and possess a minimum Japanese language proficiency of JLPT N3, but also actively participate in the Faculty’s and University’s extracurricular activities.

After passing the internal interview round and being selected by the partner university from the official nomination list, Huynh Thi Ngoc Tram – a third-year student from class 22DTNA1, and Ho Thi Chau Thuan – a fourth-year student from class 21DTNA3, both majoring in Japanese Language, met all the rigorous selection criteria to earn a one-year exchange scholarship at Ibaraki Christian University – one of HUTECH’s prestigious international partners in Japan.

Sharing about their journey to win the scholarship, Ngoc Tram and Chau Thuan said that the key factor in their achievement was the academic environment at the Faculty of Japanese Studies. Here, students are encouraged to strive academically, enrich their knowledge, and develop soft skills through extracurricular activities, academic clubs, and student union work. These comprehensive experiences helped them build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to confidently step into the world.

After one month of studying and living in Japan, Ngoc Tram and Chau Thuan shared: “It still feels like a dream. Our wish to integrate and experience Japanese culture has now come true. Though we were a bit overwhelmed at first, we’re gradually getting used to life here.”

Not only do they get to study with Japanese lecturers and gain in-depth knowledge of Japanese language, culture, and society, Ngoc Tram and Chau Thuan also have opportunities to make friends and interact with international students from China and Indonesia. Especially touching was their surprise reunion with Japanese students who had previously visited HUTECH: “We were genuinely surprised and emotional when we met our old friends – the Japanese students who once came to study and exchange at HUTECH. In a foreign land, this unexpected reunion brought us warmth and extra motivation each day in our studies.”

With all these valuable experiences, the two students shared a message with fellow HUTECH students: “If you have a dream of studying abroad and want to experience a new culture and learning environment, don’t hesitate! Step out of your comfort zone, because you’ll definitely learn so many valuable things!”

Ngoc Tram and Chau Thuan’s study-abroad experience in Japan not only marks a significant turning point in their academic and personal development, but also clearly reflects the international integration-oriented training philosophy that the Faculty of Japanese Studies and HUTECH are steadfastly pursuing. It is hoped that their success will inspire students of the Faculty of Japanese Studies in particular, and HUTECH students in general, to be more confident in stepping beyond their comfort zones and taking action to realize their dreams. The journey of exploring knowledge and experiences in an international environment will be a precious opportunity for young people to develop comprehensively, enhance their global integration capacity, and gradually become dynamic, confident, and resilient global citizens in this new era.
