HUTECH-CYU students learn from UNESCO expert

On November 15, the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) hosted the "Kick-off and Orientation" event. Designed for students enrolled in the international joint program between HUTECH and CY Cergy Paris Université (CYU, France), the event aimed to provide essential academic guidance and create opportunities for students to engage with a UNESCO expert.

Held at the Saigon Campus, the event featured remarks from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Lam, Vice Chairman of the University’s Board of Directors. He expressed pride in the professionalism and strong expertise demonstrated by alumni of the HUTECH-CYU program. Their success, he noted, is a source of inspiration for the university to continue organizing such initiatives to foster growth, learning, and readiness for future accomplishments among its students.

A key highlight was the participation of Prof. Eric Olmedo, Director of the Center for Innovation, Transdisciplinary Research, and Consultancy (UEF) and Co-Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on Social Practices in Intercultural Communication and Social Cohesion. Prof. Olmedo shared valuable insights on academic regulations and delved into topics such as event management, food and beverage operations, and the rich culinary traditions of France and Europe.

Prof. Olmedo provided students with a holistic understanding of event organization, addressing planning, resource management, operational control, and food safety, all while maintaining international standards. Additionally, students explored the artistry of French and European cuisine, learning about preparation techniques, plating aesthetics, and the seamless fusion of flavor and cultural significance. These lessons aimed to develop intercultural competencies and bolster students’ confidence in navigating global environments.
