Connecting with American Friends: A Cultural Exchange with HUTECH English Majors

On May 23, English-majored students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) took part in a cultural exchange event where they learned about the state of Texas (USA) through engaging activities with seven American guests from various professional backgrounds. Organized by the HUTECH English Club (HEC), this event aimed to help students enhance their language skills while broadening their understanding of American culture.

As part of the program, the American guests shared fascinating insights about the Lone Star State. From its natural landscapes and cowboy traditions to major events and Texan personalities, the students were introduced to Texas in a lively and captivating manner. To add to the vibrant atmosphere, both students and guests also performed music and artistic acts, making the exchange more colorful and memorable.

Accompanying the students at the event were faculty members from the Faculty of English, including Ms. Do Thi Hong Nhung, Mr. Kurt Adam Sweiger, Mr. Huynh Thanh Quang, and Ms. Pham Thanh To Mai. Students had the valuable opportunity to engage in conversations and build connections with the American guests, who included professional photographers, seasoned educators, and freelancers.

The event began with Ms. Do Thi Hong Nhung introducing key aspects of Vietnamese culture, particularly the country’s distinctive cuisine, allowing the international guests to gain a deeper appreciation of Vietnam and its people.

One of the most anticipated parts of the exchange was the Q&A session, where students asked the guests questions and received interesting and thoughtful answers. Additionally, a quiz on facts about Vietnam and Texas brought a fun and educational element to the event, sparking interaction and mutual learning.

Such cultural exchange programs not only foster a positive learning environment where students can develop cultural knowledge and language skills, but also nurture their confidence and creativity.
